This New Year day will get us freedom from the annoying telemarketers. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has brought in curb from the reckless cold calling and the unsolicited sales’ pitches are liable for punitive action.The new regulations imposes that service providers will differentiate between customers who opted not be disturbed and those who allow promotional calls.

It has become very simple now, if anyone has asked not to be disturbed and still receives a call, then they can call 1909 to make a complaint and TRAI will take the necessary action. Before the deadline, each telemarketing company has to register themselves. The clause in the agreement ensures that random calls would not be made.”

The regulation, to be made effective from 1st of January 2010 will allow mobile phone users to completely or partially block calls or SMS as per categories divided into 7 categories.

Brief highlights of new DND regulation:

Regulation will be effective from 1st January 2011
Customers can completely block calls and SMS or choose to receive SMS from any of the 7 categories
Customers need to call/SMS toll free number 1909 to activate service
Service will be activated in 7 days instead of 45 days previously
Customers already registered for DND will be automatically converted to completely blocked category
All commercial calls and SMS will be from 10 digit number starting from 70xxxxxxxx
As per the regulation, no commercial communications can be made between 9 PM and 9 AM.
Regulation mandates service providers not to offer customers any SMS packs with over 100 free SMS per day.
Telemarketers will be heavily penalized if they are found guilty violating any of the above rules

Keeping in mind the irritant customers getting bombarded with unnecessary calls and SMS, this move by the TRAI is highly appreciated. However, marketing would see a huge slump. Since Push wouldn't work. Pull surely will. And Mobiesta happens to have the first mover advantage. :-)

It gives a high when you do something for that special person in your life that brings a smile to her face. My little niece is the apple of my eye. She would be home this weekend for her birthday. Am very excited to plan a birthday party for her at a place where I could take her and her friends for fun. To a certain extent that is understandable , event listing is a very data acquisition heavy business .You need to keep refreshing /updating your database on a weekly or sometime daily basis. There is very little syndicated content available for this domain . Lately there has been a lot of activity in the web( as in desktop web ) side of this domain sites like Buzzzintown, Bookmyshow has done a good job of creating mainstream awareness. But these sites were primarily web focus and I think there is a big enough market need for a pure play Mobile based event directory .
